  • Made a painful error

  • JUICEBOX0331   •   Thu, Apr 20th, '17 18:30   •   22 replies, 384 views

Yesterday after a full day at work, ate like shit and lack of rest I went to the gym as it is my daily routine. Got to the gym with the ol lady and began chest day, typically we work out seperate but yesterday I wanted to spend time with her and catch up on some current events. We started on the flat bench, her warm up was with 90lbs so instead of taking the 25s of I decided to strech with the 90 and warm up with about 25 reps but more stretching. She moved up to 135 and knocked out 10 so I did that as well and then she went up to 165 and repped that for 8. By that time she was done and i was just slinging around 5lbs in each hand for the 15 minutes she was doing that. My mistake came when I said skip the warm up and just get into it so I could move on with her, i pressed 225 for 15, jumped to 315 for 10, 405 for 8 then 455 for 3, on the 3rd rep of 455 while pressing up, about half way up I felt pop corn and excruciating pain in my right peck, I imediatley lost all strength and the 455 dropped, my spotter held it until i could shimmy underneath and dropped it. I grabbed her and went straight to the ER, at the ER they gave me a shot of toridol, put me in a sling and said to ice it. Woke up this morning and the right side of my right peck, armpit and bicep is black and blue. I have an appointment tomorrow for an MRI to see whats tore. I can raise my arm with pain so i dont think anything exploded or tore from the bone. Needless to say, dont skip your warm ups gents. This is my first injury in the 13 years of heavy lifting and im a little depressed.

This totally SUCKS the big one bud.. The reality of it is, your gonna be out for a while the way it sounds. A good gym friend of mine just went through this as well with the same tear, bruising etc.. Its not fun and you will get irritated alot. I hope you have patience bc that is what its gonna take with this injury. Do what the doctors suggest and dont cross the line out of frustration. I know this is easier said then done but I have seen this before and guys trying to comeback way to soon and re-injure the same muscle and start over. I wish you well and a complete recovery bud... Peace Out..

Got the MRI this morning and I have an extensive tear in my Pectoralis Minor that will not require surgery. Doc said to take it easy, apply heat and take OTC motrin. The bruising has spread even more but the swelling in my peck is going down daily. Ill be out of the gym until tuesday, legs and abs for the next couple of weeks then jump into upperbody slowly. I was given some daily stretching excercise to do.

If your able to raise your arm and their is no pain at all, and from your description of black and blue across your chest, I would be certain it is tore completely. With the coloring already and to not have pain when lifting your arm equals no connection if it was connected still and colored like that it would be very very painful any way you moved it. With that said, I wish you a speedy recovery brother

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as someone who has torn both pecs, I have a little experience. Your description--the pop and arm being black snd blue suggests a significant tear. I tore my pec tendon from the bone on the negative portion of the rep--my tendon basically ripped from the bone. I heard 2 pops and the pec and my entire arm
were black and blue the next day. The good news is this is easily repairable--they can anchor the tendon back to the bone. However, you mentioned yours tore on the way up. My doctor told me that when you tear it that way, typically it is muscle from tendon. I did this on my other side. This is a very difficult repair and most doctors won't even attempt it as it is like sewing wet spaghetti noodles to a tendon. I hope I am wrong and you are fine with a small tear, but I just wanted to give you some perspective of a pec tear. Keep us posted and good luck brother! Either way, it's just a bump in the road.

Edit: just wanted to add, if you do need surgery and have questions about rehab/recovery let me know

I really aprecieate you sharing that, I really do hope its nothing major like that. Lifting weights is my passion and ive never had anything go wrong to hinder that and honestly dont know how i would handle it if it is something that will put me down for a while. Fingers crossed for tomorrow

Its the worse pain ive ever felt next to gettig stabbed in the side that broke 2 ribs. On my rep up it just let loose just like in the video, got light headed, nauseous, dizzy, and couldnt move the right side of my upper body. I didnt think the surface would lool this bad the next day
