Hyperglycemic child

ad

My 9yr 65lb son came home last night looking pale and flush, feeling nauseous, tired (lethargic), but no fever or the typical sickness symptoms, and just reminding me of myself after a hard workout. So I started questioning his diet for last 24+ hours. Day prior he was at parades and ate heavy candy. Since then he hasn't really eaten or drank anything. I checked his glucose and he was at 168. I gave him some watered down orange juice and french fries. He ate a little checked bloodsugar again 45mins later and dropped to 152 and he said he was feeling better... I figured his body was off from lack of diet and kept an eye on him. Checked blood again this morning , it was at 115 and he says hes feeling great.

My question is should I be concerned that his levels got so high? And how should I handle this if I encounter again?

I would not be guessing here, would advice to get a doc to supervise the process.

Once when I was a kid my dad offered to give me a candy. Of course I immediately said yes, and he answered me okay but we first run. You see what I mean ? The reward comes after the effort. Obviously when I was young I hated, but growing up I understood why.

Deffinately real doc stuff indeed. The carbs were just an uneducated move based around him not eating all day. I hate making moves blindly, that's one reason I wanted to reach out and ask. I will be following up w his doc. I think this forum is more than a typical gear head office.. lmao

Funny! His doc said the same thing. So I go back and interrogate my boy. Come to find out he ate a whole cotton candy two hours earlier and his mom told him not to tell me. Smfh.. it makes alot more sense now. My common sense shlda kicked in, but i just came off a sixteen hour shift. Diabetes runs in our family, and I hated thinking my son might have to deal w this for the rest of his life.. Anyway, his body did balance back out and seems to be doing what it's supposed to. Still gonna run him by his doc later this week for a checkup.

Onewheelup, with all due respect my brother I would take this to the pediatrician. Shoot them an email, my doc doesn’t charge for emails and basic questions. It may be common for kids to run high like that from time to time due to metabolic differences but at the same time it may NOT be common at all.

It sounds like things are trending back to normal but I would investigate just to be safe. Can never hurt to do a little research and ask the professionals.

Good luck my man, all the best to you and your family

Ur rite, I do need to consult his pediatrician. Never thought of emailing the docs office. Cool thanks. My boys trust me as their first line of defense. I'm the one they always look at to see how bad it is. Broken bones, cuts, sprains, sicknesses, even unwanted growth, no problem. But this kinda through me for a loop. I have to say, from doing alot of research here is what made me think of the bloodsugar, otherwise I would have thought he was playing me and told him suck it up! Lol. He is doing better, I'll see if I can email his doc.
