What Makes a Ban?

I came to this site from Iron Den as one of my friends there used to brag on Eroids all the time. I looked him up and he is banned. I can see from what posts of his I can find that he was not so popular, but I can't find why he was banned.
I just used one of the sources here by his recommendation and approval, as I have associated with him for some years) and I now wonder if his advice can be trusted? He was barely a year older than me and seemed to like the same interests (no homo).
No way am I anyone's advocate, so not even going to tie myself to him, but just what constitutes a ban?
Is there any way to see 'why' a user was banned?

No, think that is my current photo. I am not going to name drop, but I think I have my answer already. I was more worried that you guys had banned someone for indiscretion (like sharing names) but it appears he is harmless enough for my concerns. Like I say, known him ages, but not really known him. Nice site, BTW and not at all as other sites call it, but then everyone bashes one another. Pretty active community here, might just leave a profile here and surf the pages a bit. I've cruised it before, but it is a whole new view from a registered user.

Just a lot of reading. I searched a bunch of posts looking for information. The no homo was not difficult to pick up, it is in about every subject here. We use it in our forum too. Not trying to be tricky here, just wanting to know if I can trust the recommendation of source from this guy, I already have a good bit invested and I don't feel comfortable with the doubt.
