+ 4 Sick on cycle

ad

Well, it's that time of year for many of us. That's right. Flu/cold season. For many of us that live in areas w/extreme seasonal shifts, it's inevitable that the virus' start to fly as we transition to fall/winter.
Now, I rarely get seriously sick, but because my life is often governed by Murphy's Law, it would make perfect sense that, 4 wks into my cycle, just when things were beginning to pop, I would fall seriously ill. 5 days in bed/on the couch, couldn't keep food down, coughing, cold/hot flashes, and just about every other form of human misery imaginable. This had and obvious effect on diet/training. The diet I had been sticking to religiously went to shit, and I couldn't get anywhere near the gym. I lost nearly 4 lbs. I was able to keep my protein intake up due to my gal having an endless supply of supplement in the house, something I generally try to avoid. I've since gotten the diet back on track and have turned the training up to eleven, and w/a tweak in the diet, I've added the lost weight back, but there's no question missing nearly a week had an effect on my cycle and its overall results.
What are some of your similar experiences in this regard? How have you adapted? What,if any, steps have you taken to minimize the impact of mid-cycle illness? Thanks for reading.

Crucial to try to keep your diet as clean as possible even while sick. Eat plenty of greens, maybe put a smoothie together and then if you have some energy go for a run to try and sweat it out.

I've found a healthy diet to be the best cure for illness, it just allows your immune system to do its job.

If the sickness is bad I just go to the doctor so I can get the meds I need. Either way rest as much as I can up my water as much as I can. Keep my meal as close to normal as possible and when I work out I keep in mind something is better then nothing meaning if I kill my self in the gym I may not recover fast being sick and may miss days so just do enough till I’m better.

Life happens. The last action you ever want to do in the event of sickness is to continue to train.
We all (should) know that recovery, repair, and ultimately growth comes from proper nutrition combined with Rest.

I know how the appetite may wane but ensuring proper nutrition uptake is crucial in times of sickness. Switch to soups, stews, and shakes if the stomach is feeling uneasy. Whole foods is always key. Soups and stews are incredibly valuable nutritional options to conside as they are often rich in valuable collagen along with nutrient dense root vegetable.

For just such times, I always also keep a good amount of high quality supplements on hand. By that I mean Milk Thistle, Liv-52, Fiber, Anti-parasite detox, essentials minerals such as zinc & magnesium, along with potassium, vitamin A B D3 C E, and trusty old organic apple cider vinegar. All useful tools in combating and preventing illness.

Injectable vitamins are also a great tool to combat the first signs of sickness as thier absorption and potency are unmatched by orals. Great items to consider adding to your overall general health toolbox. Hope you feel better soon.

It happens to the best of us brother. Don't worry about the lost weight, I don't doubt you will get it back rather quickly. Try to maintain a healthy diet. Take in plenty of fluids and let it run it's course. By all means go to the doctor if your situation does not improve. I generally go to the doc as soon as I start feeling an illness coming on a get a shot of Kenalog. It's a corticosteroid that boosts your immune system. I normally feel better in 24-48 hours after that shot. Wait to train until your respiratory symptoms clear up. Don't be the guy that gets the whole gym sick lol. Hope you feel better soon bro. Load up on Vitamin C and you can treat your symptoms accordingly with otc meds.

Thanks brother. This was actually a couple weeks back. I'm good as gold now. Eating like a slob and training my ass off. Feeling great and packing on some nice mass. Cheers!

Lol yeah I figured that out and you replied before I completed my edit. Still half asleep. Glad things are back on track. Try that Kenalog next time if you have access. Works great.
