+ 1 What's your favorite way to train your grip?
ad
Recently my grip has become the limiting factor in things like my deadlift. It gives out when i still have a rep or 2 in the tank. I'd rather strengthen my grip than use straps or something similar. I already do dead hangs to help with my shoulders and have significantly increased my hang time over the last few months. Farmers walks have been recommended to me as well.
Just figured i'd come ask all of you what your go to or most effective training method for grip strength is so i can have some options to play around with and see what works best for me. So what do you boys got?

I’ve been using a standard barbell and just rolling it a pronated grip while standing, but you have to raise the end of the barbell at the end of the roll. Both directions. Talk about forearms and hands on fire.
AK80On knees with the bench supporting wrists - straight bar or dumbells slow half curls. 25lb plate with a dowel rod and rope twist it up and down slow. Rustyhooker probably would have said jacking off to gay midget porn though.
Rusty was before my time. I've actually done what you're talking about in the past. Then flipped my arms over and went the other direction as well. It def got some more definition in my forearms.
Barbell behind your back. Palms facing rearward on glutes so you cant cheat. Roll barbell to fingertips. Roll it back to palm and push rearward when fully in palm. Works fingers and forearms.
flexed position....lower...roll down to fingertips...
I work on my grip with captains of crush grippers. I currently have up to the #2 and can close that one. Wanna get to #3 or #3.5 eventually. That being said drop the mindset of “I don’t wanna use straps it’s cheating”….your grip will NEVER be stronger than your legs. And I only do double overhand grip on deads because I ain’t about to tear a bicep doing mixed grip. You’re limiting your legs and back gains forgoing with straps once the weight requires it.
I've always stuck with Double overhand too, doing alternate just feels so awkward to me and it almost angles your back wrong when doing deads. I put figure 8's on at 5 plates. Mate the fuckin injuries I have seen with guys doing alternate is so frightening I will never try doing heavy alternate and watching my bicep roll up my right arm! Lol Although I have heard of people losing biceps by doing double overhand hook grip - but you really gotta be pushing it on weight for that to happen. Kinda 350kg upwards I believe. I know purists will say you shouldn't be lifting what you cannot grip, but I'm happy accepting that in return for keeping my bicep attached. I have a pal who lost his alternate grip on here when doing 280kg and his lifting never recovered, bicep came totally off at the elbow and fucked up his bench for the rest of time.
I only do double overhand too. I really don't think i'm at the point where i should need to use straps. I'm not against them. But i feel i have room to grow with just my own grip so i'd like to work on that for the time being.
Subtract the trousers and you’re g2g.
3 Sets of 1,700 strokes daily.
Sorry brother I had too
On a real note check out Grip Genie and Jujimufu!! He has an amazing YouTube channel and has highlighted grip quite a few times. I use the fat grips and pinch block the most.
Editing this in because it helped me not so much with strength, but definitely added dexterity and helps wrist/hand pains. The old combat sports trick of a bucket of rice/sand/bbs sounds stupid, but works wonders for rehab!
The celebratory blow whistle killed me! Haaaaa
My girl still has a scratched cornea from the last time I did that…
My girl would catch on pretty quick if i wasn't looking to bang her every time i saw her. Nothing against playing with the old trouser snake when needed. I had actually seen the rice bucket thing a while and wanted to try it. I just totally forgot about it I just got myself a nice new 5 gallon bucket with a lid leftover from trick or treat candy and easily have 30+ lbs of rice in my storage room. Thanks for reminding me. I'm going to give that a go.
