+ 4 Being consistent with meetings

Default - Use Group's defaults.

We have learned from our group experience that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly stay

The NA program gives us a new way of living. One of the basic elements of that new pattern is regular meeting attendance. For the newbie, living without the use of drug's is is brand new experience. All that once was familiar is changed. The old people, places, and things that served as props on the stage of our lives are gone. New stresses appear, no longer masked or deadened by drugs. That's why we often suggest that newcomers attend a meeting every day. No matter what comes up, no matter how crazy the day gets, we know that our daily meeting awaits us. There, we can renew contact with other recovering addicts, people who know what we're going through because they've been through it themselves. No day needs to go by without the relief we get only from such fellowship.

Great post! I found those early days the most fun too even though they were the hardest - Day 5 of sobriety I nearly buckled but said to myself if I have that drink today then it won't just be today, it'll be tomorrow too so what's the use in lying to myself. That first few weeks I discovered a new life that was better than any day from the previous 16 years of being pissed every night! lol Built some great friendships, a few made it, many folded within a few months but you have to remember that this is for you. You are only disappointing yourself if you fail, after all everyone expected us to!

Knowledge of spiritual principles is useless without PRACTICAL APPLICATION. The majority of the time I go to speak in detoxes....I don't even have to pass out the literature! Half of the clients can recite the readings verbatim. All that knowledge... yet still stuck in the cycle! It's all about balance and it gets hard sometimes. Between family, work, gym, traffic. Etc. Its so easy to say "I'll go tomorrow". Before you know it, you haven't been to a meeting in 6 months. I'm guilty of this myself. I always try to reach out and make myself a part of. I stick to my routine and make an average of 3 meetings a week. Whatever works for you.

Thanks for sharing this. I went to close to 100 meetings in my first 90 days. I built a foundation I still stand on today. Every relationship in my life was damaged by my using, so I had time to go to meetings and there were more meetings in 2008 than there are in '21. 90 in 90 is still possible in '21, and meetings online can be helpful too. Very grateful I got clean when I did. Life has been much richer on every level. I have self-acceptance today, because of regular meeting attendance.
If the stuff on the street in '21 was as available in '08, I'm not sure I would have survived. thanks for reading this.

Who knew hopping on this forum I’d find a thriving recovery group. It’s refreshing reading your guys posts and reminds me why I’ve chose the path I’m on. Thankfully It’s a path many have walked. It’s reinforcing. Look forward to more
