Intermittent fasting or keto?

ad

As preparation of my cutting cycle I´m reading lately a lot about diet. I just wanted to see if any of you had been in intermittent fasting and /or in a keto diet as I would like to figure out how it will be easier to be in a caloric deficit.

Any feedback will be more than welcome.

I have recently read this book on LCHF...really simply explained

Holy Fat!: How dietary fats can help you lose weight and feel good
by Tjasa Vrhovnik (Author), Gasper Grom (Author)

And this one is still classic read from Lyle McDonald - The Ketogenic Diet: A Complete Guide for the Dieter and Practitioner

I would really advise everyone to read before going on a ketogenic diet.

For keto you need to use higher amounts of anabolics to prevent katabolism.

This is interesting article easily explained some issues with keto people misunderstood commonly

people usually eat too much protein instead of fat...I see that mistake in many of my mates

Thank you for al your replies. Most probably I will plan the keto diet for at least 6 months.

Both work, individually or together. But keep in mind in order to reap the benefits of true keto you need to stay on it for AT LEAST 3 months, perhaps even 6 months because unless you are engaging in frequent multiple day extended fasts this is just how long proper keto adaptation needs to take place at a gene transcriptional level. I myself have been on keto for over a year now and plan on staying on it forever in terms of health/longevity. While cutting is def easier on it and even if isocalorically you lose more fat (same happens with IF) bulking is a little harder as insulin is the most anabolic hornone known to man. Also, IF is much easier if you are truly fat adapted, but before I was doing IF with a rather low fat diet, which also worked for me - at least in terms of bodybuilding

A lot of how much muscle you retain depends on what GEAR you are using with Keto or Fasting. I prefer Keto. Just my opinion.

Intermittent fasting and Keto actually go really well together. Once you get keto adapted the higher (healthier) fat diet keeps you satiated longer and you dont get the sugar/carb cravings. I had no problems doing a 16/8 fast with keto and actually felt really good on it last year. Yes you will lose a tad bit of muscle or mass but if your cutting that's to be expected anyways. Alot of factors play in here, length of time, protein intake etc....I'm pro keto and IF but I don't run year round or anything

Keto is fairly easy to combine into a cut. Many old school bodybuilders basically did keto or close to it during precontest before there was a “keto”.

IF is another beast entirely and very individual specific. I would say only use it if you have muscle to burn and/or you know you respond really well to it. I’ve used IF with success because I bulked much higher than I really needed to and could afford to lose some fullness in the pursuit of conditioning. If you know you don’t have enough muscle hiding under the fat I would not advise it.

What’s your bf %?

Yeah.
Atkins has some funky stuff where it loosened up the rules on you later in the diet which didn’t make much sense but basically sub 50 grams of carbs per day. Some guys say sub 20.
