+ 2 East Germans Force-Trained In Special Underground Atmospheric Chamber During Cold War

ad

Hey what's up guys. I was watching an interesting show on Discovery, or one of those similar channels the other day and wanted to know if anyone else had seen it and what they thought. It was about the East Germans during the Cold War forcing their Olympic athletes to train in a secret underground two-story depressurised bunker where they could simulate high-altitude conditions with very little oxygen. It was supposed to be similar to training at an altitude of like 13,000 ft and produce more red blood cells and whatnot inside their bodies.

I think this was after they started testing for steroids, so they needed another way to assure they would outperform the other competitors. Or knowing them, they probably just used a newer steroid that was still undetectable along with this slave training. It was a huge underground bunker with all the latest training equipment, exercise bikes, pools etc.. They were forced to train there for many weeks, and when their red blood cell count was drastically raised they went to compete.

I guess technically they weren't breaking any rules by using performance enhancing drugs, but these people were being forced to train in these conditions for many weeks at a time like slaves. At the time, the East Germans would basically do anything to make sure they win the Olympics and prove that Communism is best. Anyway, it's a very interesting story to watch, and you can look it up on the internet as well.

I found a link on the internet where it's mentioned;

The thing was they got caught.
Anybody that believes it was only communist Countrys is probably reading Shirley Blabasaw books.

Cornelia Elder had already won silver at 14 years old in 72.
Babbashaw was not the favorite to win the 100 in 76.
The race wasnt even close.
I dont beleive the results would have been different and who knows what the US team was taking.
This is the kind of shit that makes Americans look bad imo.
I feel the same way about Bonds. I've taken alot of shit alot of years and cant hit a ball off a tee...

I know training at higher altitudes helps with endurance by forcing muscles to perform at a set standard with less oxygen. But this is a different training perspective. Being they weren't sent out till RBC was high enough... Very interesting and always nice to learn a little more about sports history. Maybe someone can give a little more depth of how high altitude effects RBC enough to be considered legal doping?? +

Yes this is very interesting for sure! I don't know what the practical applications there are for bodybuilding however. We sure don't want to lift in Oxygen deprived conditions. +
