+ 1 Bulk or cut?

ad

Hey guys I'm new to eroids and I would like to say I'm a young guy, 21 and I do not use gear and won't be for a few years till I think I'm ready to take that leap. I am 5'9 187-189lbs bout 15% bodyfat and I'm wondering if I should cut or bulk? I've been training for 3 years my diet hasn't always been on point since I could always eat whenever I want, I was 180 before I went on vacation for 3 weeks to Thailand now I'm back and gained 8-10lbs (lost alittle). I went to IIFYM and this is what it told me to do for a cut
CARBS PROTEIN FAT FIBER CALORIES
GRAMS per day 321.7 184 73.6 37 - 46 2685
. I'm on this forum to learn more about how I should do things and I will take all advice from you guys who are experienced and may have went through something like this.

Thanks guys.

Nice. Now posts like this and the communication below is why I have fought and will continue to fight to keep this ship going on course. This is why eroids is what it is. Every now and then you get someone who truly wants help and wants to learn the right way. Good for you thaitan. I competed naturally for quite awhile. Helps when you build the foundation for a few years and learn how to tweak nutrients and carb cycling etc etc. So when you get to the point when you runf gear you get the best of it. Good luck and drop me a pm if you ever have any questions.

Exactly my saying.
If I only can help 1/10, it's still worth the grind dealing with the 9 others who don't want to listen or are willing to take advice.
We are definitely not here to harm anyone, quite the opposite, we want all of the people here to be as healthy as possible.
So yeah, as long as there are some who really want the help, we'll always be here for them

Thaitan's picture

Exactly this is what it amounts too! I don't want to run anything because I'm not on the RIGHT track for my macros and such and learning stuff like how your body works the best with what is how it should be before you would ever consider using, I honestly wish the kids I knew I went to the same gyms with had some sort of mind to become more knowledgeable before jumping into unknown territories. Theres PLENTY of 14-18 year olds at the gym I worked at on gear its sad truth, they talk about running cycles without pct as well its ridiculous. Thanks for the help brotha, I know everyones got abit of info they'd love to share so I'll learn as much as possible off you guys, seriously even for a "sourcing/forum" website, its more than that.

DAM bro good for you and seems you have got it together and that is the best choice EVER you can do is stay natural for as long as you can and eat, train, rest bro. Who knows you are young and might decide to go down a different road one day other than training or fitness related and best thing is you didn't screw your life up by using aas and get put on trt...........

GREAT for you bro stay that way and get the most you can natural and keep that attitude bro....

ALOT of these other young guys should see this and do the same

Thaitan's picture

Thanks brotha, it puts me at a peace of mind knowing natural potential can go so far, but I want to see the stage life for myself eventually then get to the bigger stage one day. My parents own a restaurant so its easy for me to gain weight so its been a hard to discipline myself with food around me all the time lol

+2 for going about this in the right way at your she. Training and nutrition. Good man.

maybe the other youngsters should do this also huh????????????

This might be the best of both worlds for your particular situation.

Thaitan's picture

That was a really good write up you did man, I enjoyed reading it. Do you think it would work for someone thats natural as well or just on gear?

Makwa's picture

One of the best ways to bulk when natural

Thaitan's picture

thats awesome to know. I'll try it out, I just watched matt ogus how to fix macros in 5 minutes video lol I'll give it a shot in 2 weeks (healing up my elbow right now)

Hej Thaitan,

welcome to eroids!

First off, no one should judge whether you should cut or bulk. If you feel uncfortable in your current state then cut, if you are satisfied with how you look and how you perform the bulk or even stay at maintenance intake.
The mentioned above is also dependant on what your goals are. Are you more strength/performance oriented or do you train for appearance and physique?

I went to IIFYM and this is what it told me to do for a cut

It's not necessary but makes it for many easier to adhere to a diet. But there are many ways you can actually setup your diet. You need to find what works best for you and what you can easily stick too.

Your macros already look good enough. Give yourself a ranges because you'll most likely never hit the macros exactly. Especially when you're IIFYM, then give yourself a range like for example CARBS: 315-330...you get the idea.
Further I'd like to mention that it probably is best to increase protein by a slight amount when you decide to cut. Otherwise, this looks decent enough.

Hey thank you, totally understandable on no one could decide on someone else unless maybe a coach haha. I prefer bodybuilding due to me being weak honestly, I've always trained hypertrophy(tried 5x5 forawhile) I have size on me but maybe its genetics (asian) and my dad/mom are tiny I don't exactly train for strength because I can only bench like 225x3 or something which is sad.

My goals are to be atlease 200lbs within 12% bf overall, but as of right now it is to add on size and strength but with my bodyfat probably the highest its ever been then my thoughts/goal are all over the place.

Thanks for the input on the macros, I appreciate it I figured it would be hard to hit it exactly on point and yeah the protein itself seemed alittle too low so around 200grams would sound better. I think I might lean bulk or try to go on a high protein/low fat/low fat diet? I'm just not sure if I should get lean before bulking or just keep going at it as well.

I feel like I have alot more growing potential even if that means adding on alittle bit more bf. Sorry I'm not really good at how macros really work, I'm going to try to watch some of the 3DMJ macro videos soon though.

If you have any personal experices do share.

X2.

Weight only matters if you're a weight lifter. If you're lifting enough to make gains, who cares? Less likely to pick up an injury too.

Thanks alot bro, will keep in mind & I'll send ya one incase I have any questions Smile

For a training routine, I actually never give recommendations for cookie-cutter-programs. There are so many ways to setup a routine, depending on goals, athlete himself, etc.
But, if I had to give you anything, I'd recommend a routine which includes some kind of periodiziation.
Include some compound movements where you focus on Strength, followed by other exercises which are there for purely hypertrophy. Due to your not highly advanced, I'd imagine you could make really good progress with it.
Upper/lower/Push/Pull/Legs is always a good setup I think and if you trained for 3 years already, it could be adequate volume, but I won't get as far of saying that this is for you. (would get to much into PT)
Anyway, with the setup above you could take the first 2 days more strength related and the others more for hypertrophy.

My goals are to be atlease 200lbs within 12% bf overall, but as of right now it is to add on size and strength but with my bodyfat probably the highest its ever been then my thoughts/goal are all over the place.

Nothing which can't be achieved with dedication and consitency. Have a clear goal and work for it. And don't blame genetics before you didn't try to hit the limits ;-)

As for protein. Higher is not always better, at a certain amount, plenty of studies have shown that there's no real benefit in taking a higher amount of protein. So rather invest the macros into carbs to fuel your workouts and recovery. 200gr. is plenty with your stats.

I'm just not sure if I should get lean before bulking or just keep going at it as well.

I told you what I think and this is smt. you need to prioritize for yourself. If you're not in a hurry, you could do a slower cut, thus your performance/progress won't be hindered. Just a suggestion.

3DMJ is golden. You've chosen a good source of information.

If you have any personal experices do share.

I could, but I am more strength oriented and what I prefer or prioritize doesn't mean it's for you, so I rather avoid in sharing my experience because you need to find out what you really want by yourself.

Well said bro. Good advice.

To the OP, You say diet hasn't been a strong point of yours in the past. I would focus on cleaning that up first and foremost. Know what to eat, how much to eat, and when. Lots of information in this forum. And even more elsewhere. PM me if you want to talk specifics.

Owes a Review × 1

Good read thank you! Yeah I've figured out that I will actually take a strength approach now. Gonna start training heavy and keep the calories just above maintance :]

Pericu's picture

Much appreciated!
And yeah, if they honestly want to learn and not only want to get an approval, I'll try everything I can to help them out :-)
