taking off shirt in gym

ad

I had something very sad happened in gym today. i was having great workout and during each set i took off my shirt and then after completing set i wear it again. then two guys came to me and said its against gym ethics and said some people dont like others to take off their shirt in gym and ur skin shouldnt touch the bench (notice i had a towel always put on bench while using bench and after finishing i do some extra cleaning of the bench for being sure). i was very pissed off, i left my workout in between and left the gym, rest of my whole day i was sad and in bad mood. cos i thought nobody talks about racking weights in their place, nobody talks about occupying the machine or bench for a long time texting on phone. i seen many times ppl not racking weights and wasting time on bench using phone but i never tell them. i feel its against general ethics and it might hurt their self respect. so i always when go to gym´, the first thing i do is rack all the weights which other ppl have left, put mats or ropes or any bars and rest of stuff in its place without telling anyone to rack their weights but this incident today made me very sad and i might switch to other gym.

what are your guys take on it. is it against ethics to workout shirtless in gym?

Big company policy bro. They gotta cover all bases so there isn't an inkling of a chance someone will be offended. But forreal, whereing clothes in public is civil and expected. There's a guy who used to compete as a natural bodybuilder who owns a gym in town, and having a shirt off when the place isn't staffed doesn't bother him too much. Hes a pretty fuking legit dude tho.

At my gym, there is this one big guy who wipe his sweat with his shirt after EVERY set & show his abs, only problem is, he is probably 30% or more body fat, i just look at him & laugh. My point is, unless you are contest ready, there is always gonna be someone in better shape than you, chances are you are making yourself look ridiculous :/

Don't understand, why you're pissed off???
Never saw anyone training without a shirt in a gym!!!

I think you can answer your own question if you ask yourself, "How many others have you seen with their shirt off in the same gym?"

No one wants to see my wrinkled, old, hairy pot belly, shoulders, and braided lower back hair. And I don't want to see your young, pimply, back acne, and your shoulder tattoo of Danny Bonaduce.

Keep your shirt on.

Racing stripes on the bench? Lmao funny shit right there!

PIN_CUSHION's picture

You could probably collect all that Viking sweat in a bottle and sell it to pharmaceutical companies so they can use it to make that testosterone gel deodorant.

I must start squeezing out my underpants after w/outs and bottling that shit lol............ (Nastee)

Unless you're at a gym like Bagman's, which I affectionately call a dungeon, (I love those gyms,) no one is going to allow you to take off your shirt. Hell, even Gold's and World don't put up with that shit. If you want to lift without a shirt, find a dungeon or lift at home.

We occasionally have pros come train there just for the old equipment n atmosphere! U don't see those old nautilus neck machines n gyms anymore we've got one lol , dude that owns gym is a competitor so he set gym up in warehouse n every piece of equipment geared towards bodybuilding one treadmill one stair master that's it n it only gets used by people prepping mostly

cdyrdes's picture

And thats why I stick to mu dungeon, anything goes at my template screams, grunts, growls, small garbage cans through out for when/if you push to work, shirtless WHATEVER. I'll never go anywhere else

Bagman's picture

In my gym there's guys down to underwear practicing their poses, but it's a real gym with competitors and was created for the juice head culture, even has a warning sign on front door

PIN_CUSHION's picture

What does it say?

Bagman's picture

Hardcore training facility enter at your own risk , no ac , dumbbell up to 200, no locker room just a toilet, no water fountain bring ur own gallon! Raise the garage doors up with huge fans n go! Wear ur cart hart jacket n winter till ur warmed up lol a real gym very few left! Open ed a year all holidays too

I've never seen it happen personally in any gym. It's not something I'd do either, I save my mirin for the changing room mirror when im getting changed.
I think you'd be asked to put your shirt back on in most gyms.

Like my gym lol u saw!

glowinthedark's picture

Why you cant take it off.. Assuming ur not at planet fitness and at a real gym i think the reason is keeping things sanitary but also guys will be admiring your pump and be uncomfortable that they're checking out another guy so no bueno :-p

vhman's picture

I'm not sure I'm following or agreeing with your logic here. You're saying that because you rack your weights, that gives you the right to take your shirt off? How is that connected? Anyway, quit acting like a teenager and join civilized society. Save the shirt off for the pool.

MONK's picture

Lol c'mon bro your were feeling in the zone and wanted to mark your territory Blum 3

You might as well have got on your hands and knees like a dog and pissed all over the squat rack :/

If u go to another place to lift make sure u find out what their policy is prior to starting.

My shirt mildewed in the laundry basket, which i didnt know about. I kept smelling something dead everytime i went to lift.

It was hot three weeks ago, so i took my shirt off to do overhead dumbell pulls and put it down on a short bench to lay on. When i got up, i wiped my face and to my surprise, i found the culprit. For two months, i was wonderimg what was dead....

Lol...

PIN_CUSHION's picture

Depends on the gym and it's members, but I have to ask why do you take it off during your set then put it back on?

PIN_CUSHION's picture

Just curious, I work out at home so I could do so naked if I choose. I just think taking your shirt off in a public gym will always draw negative attention. It always comes across as if you want everyone to look at you even if that's not the case.
