+ 4 I benched 300lbs for the 1st time today

ad

So today is a hard cardio day for me, but I get up on time for a change and had an extra 20min at the gym today, so before I got on the eliptical I hit the bench. I did 135 10x strecthin, 185 10x, 225 5x, 275x5.... I never hit 275 for 5 before, hit it for 4, but not 5, and I felt like I may have had a couple more, so I thought lets try 300lb. I unrack, controlled to my chest, It comes up fairly easy at first, I get to where I have about 6" left to go up, and my arms just started shakin, it was stuck for a millisecond, then I popped her up on the rack. I have just felt pretty good about that all day.

I told a couple people, but I could tell they weren't really interested. So still being proud of my new accomplishment, I thought maybe you guys cud appreciate what it feels like to do something you've been wanting to do for a long time, and you reach that goal.

whenever I feel like takin it a little easy, I remind myself of soemthing i was told a long time ago... If you skip sets, do 1/2 reps, or just 1/2assed train. The only person you are cheating is yourself. Stick to your goals bro's, eye on the prize.

Excellent accomplishment! This game is more mental than physical! You got this! Keep it up! I'll never forget the first time I hit 315.

Congrats on this! I think everyone can relate to hitting a sought after personal goal and getting the high off of doing it. When it happens, you'd like to have a bro or 2 you're tight with close by so you can do a high five or whatever. Hey, but at least ya got peeps here. Keep it up and on to the next set of plates.

r u powerlifter or bodybuilder???
if not powerlifter this is useless just will increase risk of injury

I'd have to respectfully disagree from personal experience. Like the thread starter I'm neither a powerlifter or bodybuilder, though I enjoy powerlifting. For years, I did alot of isolation exercises, but after I started trying to do heavy, compound exercises as a base and trying to do max lifts then the game changed for me. Just my opinion, but these type of lifts, used strategically, tremendously increase your base strength and can also aid greatly in development. These can be difference makers for some. In addition, these can be very motivational in that they keep giving you a goal to keep pushing for. The one thing I would be concerned about the threadstarter, is that I think these need to be done with technique and safety in mind and as a non-pro or olympian a spotter(s) or cage should be available as needed; e.g. bench or squat - not really with deadlifts. Great thing he's still here to tell the tale.

I hear ya, actually there were a couple people around not working w/ me but i cud've said help and got it I think? Good point! You reminded me of a story an old powerlifter told me said he had like 375 on the bench, and was by himself, and was trying to get that last bad ass pump, and he said he got it up about 1/2 way then it started coomin back down on him. He had it stuck on his chest, said he cudnt breath, so he dumped it to the side blew out vertebrae said he's never been the same and cant even lift anymore or his back goes out on him for weeks... appreciate the advice bro.

I am not either... I am just the guy on the street that wants to be bigger, stronger, and better lookin? When I started the goal was to get the brad pitt in troy look (no homo) And I am sincerely hoping I will achieve it within the next few months... From there I want to maintain that build and focus purely on strength. We'll see though when I get to that point...
I agree w/ gfit on the heavy lifts thing. My reasearch and experience have shown me that heavy, lifts on large muscle groups aid in the release of all natural hormones being beneficial in not only muscle development, but the brain as well. When straining, some adrenaline is released as well as seratonin (the brains feel good chemical) The adrenaline will help you stay pumped to finish the workout hard, and then the seratonin can aid ya by being in a good mood, and feelin good.
The exercises that release the most of these chemicals are squats and deadlifts, using the largest amount of muscle groups. But some chest exercises utilize enough different muscle groups going heavy is necessary. For me?
Plus how else am I gonna prove I'm stronger than you! lol

So, are you of the opinion that Max Efforts do not Build Muscle, Strengthen Tendons, release HGH, increase IGF-1, Testosterone (other factors not withstanding)? You might wanna watch a few Ronnie Coleman videos, or read some books! Do singles increase risk of injury? Without a spot yes, but so does light weight and poor form, playing recreational sports, or trying to catch lil bunny rabbits, who's nest was disturbed while mowing the lawn (my wife's lower back not me) my fault though I was mowing.

Nice job 300 is always the big one to get over!! 350 right around the corner keep up the good work!!

Gorillafit's picture

Hell of a job Brother! 300 is my goal on this Cycle. I've hit 285, but that was a few weeks back and hurt my shoulders and forearms so I've backed off the flat bench for now.
Congrats, that shit makes it all worth it when you get something you never could before!

Thanks bros, I knew you f'ers wud understand.... It just felt good, and all day today I had this thought "I'm kinda f'n strong" lol seriously though... I know to some of you guys it's like 300lb, that was years ago. But I kinda have somethin I'm chasin maybe it is a pipedream, but my brother won a benchpress contest probably 8yrs ago w/ 440lb, I want 445lb on record just cause... But for now I am wanting to hit 300lb for 5 reps for my next goal. Thanks again for the support guys, I dont know if it gets talked about enough, but this place (eroids) does help me stay hungry for both strength and knowledge gains.
