The wheat we eat???
Just recently doing some research on whole wheat because my Brother is going on a gluten free kick. I thought he was just being crazy but from some of the reading I have been doing sounds like wheat isn't all it's cracked up to be, not even whole wheat.
Supposedly according to Dr. William Davis 2 slices of whole wheat bread will spike your insulin levels more than 6 teaspoons of table sugar. That's a pretty good spike if you ask me. But that isn't even the half of it, this genetically modified wheat we eat is supposed to contain gliadin which is an appetite stimulant. The gluten in wheat is no longer what it used to be either.
Dr. Williams purposes that this is a contributing factor to many health problems, heart disease, diabetes, and many other things. Supposedly wheat exorhins, which occur from the break down of gliadin, even demonstrate similar properties to opiates. Then it comes out that naltrexone, which you may or may not have heard of in your AAS reading can stop these opiate like effects.
So basically big pharma screwed us by making our wheat into something it shouldn't be and now they are selling us the cure again. Sound familiar to anyone? When is all this crap going to end and what are we going to eat 20 years from now when nothing is safe? Soilent Green is people!!!
Let me know what you think and if you have ever gone gluten free how did it make you feel? Cheers

eryximachusIf I didn't have to work a lot, I would definitely avoid wheat.
For the most part, the exorphins only have typical opioid side effects - euphoria and/or lethargy, slight respiratory suppression, and constipation. Some people though, it drives them mad.
Whatever the case may be, it is heavily genetically modified at this point. The wheat we consume today is very different from the wheat consumed 500 years ago.
Personally, I eat the shit because nearly every dish in a restaurant has it. Nothing is safe. And I can't get home to cook all the time. Historically however, cutting wheat and dairy out of my diet has resulted in significant increases in energy and significant weight loss. I'm convinced many bodybuilders have trouble with their guts because of all the wheat and dairy products they consume. All of those powders are filled with the crap.
FYI: Casein is decomposed into a morphine like substance as well. In fact, the whole reason opioids affect our emotions as they do, particularly the addiction, is because of this. Milk also serves to create a mother/child bonding relationship. The baby mammal actually becomes addicted to the mother's milk. For wheat, it clearly evolved as a defense against insects - the same as the poppy. Morphine in small doses only causes minor respiratory suppression, but in a bug - it kills it. Opioid receptors, by the way, are one of the few neurotransmitter receptors found in all animals.
Very interesting to hear your input on this subject. I have been considering trying out the paleolithic diet, I am almost gluten free already and don't typically use much dairy, just a little cheese now and then and some yogurt occasionally. But not sure I could cut out oatmeal, even though I have been reading up on some of the problems oatmeal causes with leptin and insulin spikes. Like you said it is hard to eat right in this day and age especially when busy with things such as work. Keep working hard. Cheers.
eryximachusIf you're on gear and working out hard, the worst side effects of wheat and dairy are minimized. The fact is they are addictive. No one overeats on fruit, even though to me it tastes much better than most desserts. You don't walk by a butcher shop or fruit stand (i'm in NYC btw, we have these still) and crave the food inside just by the smell alone. But walk by the pizza stand, or Subway, or whatever - there is a reason they vent their ovens onto the street!
It actually gets scarier. There are companies that chemically modify casein and gluten to make them more powerful and more difficult for your body to break down, and they add them to practically all junk food.
If you're really keen on porridge, you can always try something quinoa. It is the only grain with a beneficial amino acid profile. It also has some fat, which stabilizes blood sugar levels.
I actually have some quinoa in the cabinet right now, have yet to try it out but have heard good things about it. I have had it once at a friends and it was pretty darn good, just need to look up some recipes for it is all. Cheers
AnonWheat is actually bad for allot of people, and for some evil. +2.
Yeah that's what I'm starting to find out, I was always under the impression that if something was whole wheat or unprocessed it was good for you, but with the advent of genetic engineering who knows now.
AnonI break out from wheat. I figure if my epidermis is getting pimples WTF is it doing insdie my body?
Oh yeah, sorry forgot to post the link to the main article if you want to read it. Not to long or in depth of a read. http://getliftedgym.com/life-time-weight-loss-interview-dr-william-davis...
