What has been your biggest injury/ surgery?

ad

A little over 3 months ago I dislocated my shoulder training in Army combatives. The healing process is getting closer to over and I am glad that I have healed up so well. It is a huge relief to me because I will finally be able to get back in the gym and start training again.

Anyways now that I have explained why im starting this thread basically what I wanna know is what has been your biggest set back from training. Injury or surgery or anything else that has legitimately kept your from hitting the weights.

My worst ever was a wicked bad hernia. Open surgery that left a 6 inch scar right next to my junk and I couldn't do anything for like 4 months and no lifting for another two after I was cleared for cardio

herniated disks, crushed a finger (needed 12 stitches), split head open, broken collarbone, got smashed in the mouth playing racquetball (6 stitches), tendonitis in shoulder hip and elbow( both bi and tri)

biggest setback was the broken collarbone and tendonitis in shoulder, but im fully recovered.

"pain and gain" bro. thats what its all about.

armykid93's picture

I know your not referring to it but that movie was horrible lol

manbearpig's picture

lol it was weird. i felt kinda bad laughing at someone's torture and all the stupid shit they did since it was based off of a true story

armykid93's picture

I was thinking the same thing watching it cuz it was so hilarious, but honestly how the hell did they think they were getting away with it?

manbearpig's picture

idk they acted so stupid. it makes me wonder how close the movie is to what actually happened.

Well steroids ive heard can cause clotting in the muscles. These clots then travel to the brain and cause roid rage. Its obvious they were suffering from a mild case of roid rage.........I mean its obvious to me, I watch CNN

Damaged ligaments in left wrist and left knee.. My grip isn't as good as it use to be for my left now, I can really see this when I do close grip bench or reverse grip tri's. As for the knee it has roughly been 6 months.. I can't squat the weight I use to.

Grade 3 pec tear. Recovering from surgery as we speak. 6month recovery at best

Sorry man, that sucks bad. Dont worry though, youll be back killing the weights and the ladies in no time (assuming you aren't married lol)

I've had 2 knee surgeries from a torn MCL back from playing football in school. That injury sucked. Also had a inguinal hernia repaired on the right side 9 years ago, which may need to be looked at again because the mesh fells very uncomfortable lately. Had partial pec tear but that was tissue related and not tendon, so only needed rest and recovery. The iguinal hernia was probably the most painful surgery and recovery. The MCL was the mist painful when it happened, but surgery and recovery wasnt too bad.

i feel like everyone who has been lifting for years faces some-sort of ligament damage

I feel your pain. I have a nagging shoulder injury. It's not torn (yet) but it causes a lot of pain and restricts my training :-\

L5 & S1 herniation in my back. Keep my core strong and I don't have issues

armykid93's picture

I thanks god quite often because the doctor told me both times that because I have muscular shoulders, the force of the impact had to be so great that I had clean dislocations both times. In and out, im very lucky but I do think im going to hold off on the MMA for a while lol

Face reconstruction... Sounds bud but I had a car accident at the age of 13 that crushed my nose, broke my cheek bone and fractured my jaw. Because my nasel passages had to be reconstructed and cheek bone aligned it was considered face reconstruction. Try being a 13 year old with a face all messed up! It sucked!

armykid93's picture

Well im glad your still with us man, I cant even imagine.

Thank you... It was traumatic my grandmother had way worse injuries but we both came out of it a live... You can't tell at all... I still turned out an attractive women... But at 13 I was sure I would end up looking like sloth from the goonies lol

WOW.. I know that must've been hell, especially at that age. Kids can be mean as hell

I didn't attend the last half of seventh grade... But I had great friends and amazing family. However, I can remember thinking I was gonna be all messed up but after a few weeks I started to notice normal me again.

armykid93's picture

It is amazing what they can do now a days. My uncle was born with a cleft lip and pallet and you cant tell at all because of the surgery he got when he was young.

ANBRO's picture

See now that's truly amazing... I love hearing stories like that... Years ago it didn't matter you could tell... I love that technology has progressed so much.

The front ligament in my wifes right shoulder is really jacked up and weak because of surgery. Sucks brother, she complains alot so I can only imagine how bad a wrist ligament injury must hurt.
