Are you a bodybuilder?

ad

Are you a bodybuilder? This is a question I get all the time and frankly I don't know how to answer it because I do not compete. I generally say no. However, I live my life for this shit, train twice a day, measure every damn gram of food that goes in my mouth even when bulking (well except on cheat day once a week Smile ) prep meals.... Etc.. I do it because of I love it, but am I not a bodybuilder because I've never put on a pair of posing trunks, pro tan and got on stage? Just a question I pose for you all.. Is competing what defines a bodybuilder or is it a mentality, A lifestyle , a passion!!! Your thoughts!

Bodybuilder= Building your body

Competitive bodybuilder= one who builds body and competes.

You can be a body builder and not step on the stage. It's like saying I'm a corvette owner although I keep my car in the show room and don't drive it, you don't have to drive it if you own it.

"Evrrr body wanna be a bodybuilder but nobody wanna lift no heavy ass weights. "

SAME HERE!!!
I will never step on a stage because I detest the sport's politics and expoitative nature of it's own athletes.
But people always assume I am a bodybuilder.
Of course I want to look freaky, but that's my personal preference as a body type.

That's an understatement lol

I'm a lunk, neither bb or pl. I love lifting things up and putting them down, I love dropping 10 pounds in a week then blasting it back up. I love dedicating my life to live it and not live it in the gym, but when I do go I knock shit out. So im a body chiseler.

Nah, I just lift to stay in shape. I do not let it define me as a person, as I have many other hobbies and interests and don't wish to be looked at as "that one meathead". Just a regular guy here who has a passion to be stronger and look better than the average person.

It's all about the lifestyle....I compete for the challenge and bc it gives me a clear cut picture of where I am at and where I need to be

I'm right there with you bro. I live this shit day and and day out mount every thing i eat weigh out everything I never miss a workout I don't go out I don't drink do drugs etc. go thru the same bulking and cutting cycles as a bodybuilder. I'm in the gym to build my body. I'm not a powerlifter or a weight lifter. So in a sense we are bodybuilders, just not competitive. The difference is I cut to 8%, they cut to 4% and dry out carb up and get on stage. I have plans to compete but not until I have a good package to bring to the stage. It would be inefficient to cut down this and compete them bulk again then cut and compete and not bringing my best. Id rather just keep gaining until I feel I have a good amount of muscle and then compete. So am I not a bodybuilder until I compete ? Idk, wtf am I then?

Oldermuscle41's picture

Idk wtf I am either!! I would love to compete, but the reason I don't is because when I was 30 I had an emergency abdominal surgery requiring me to have a colostomy bag for 5 months. I needed several surgeries after that and I have been left with scars that fucked my lower stomach up! Not to mention lose skin from gaining and losing weight!
